I get asked this question alot and I promised a guide a while back but I'm just now getting around to making it! Here is a list of websites where you can buy minky fabric for your projects!

www.beverlys.com - search cuddle 3
www.fabric.com
www.fabricdepot.com
www.minkybabyfabric.com
www.joann.com - search for Soft n Comfy
www.theminkyboutique.com
www.minkee.com.au - Australia
www.xogigifabrics.com
www.threadart.com
www.denverfabrics.com
www.bluemoonfabrics.com
www.onlinefabricstore.net
www.plushaddict.co.uk

Land of Oh Etsy - www.etsy.com/listing/95419080/…

Ebay links!

Igloo0203 - myworld.ebay.com/igloo0203/&_t… - This seller has a wide color selection and the minky comes in 3mm and 5mm pile! She's located in Korea and shipping usually takes about 2 weeks, or at least that is when my orders arrive.

KYcutters - myworld.ebay.com/kycutters/?_t… - They sell Benartex Minkee Gelato. It's a tie dyed minky that I used for filly Luna's mane. Some nice colors are available.

Chenille Magic - myworld.ebay.com/chenillemagic…

Suedecloth:

Sy Fabrics - www.syfabrics.com/Browse.aspx/…

Hopefully that list will make your search for minky much easier.

Hello! Sorry for commenting on such an old journal, but is there a reason why people don't buy minky from amazon? It seems like amazon is a lot cheaper than these places(minky there goes for $6-10/yard, sometimes more of course. Anyway, just wondering. Thanks. :)

Does is disclose what brand the minky is? It might be bad quality, or if it does not say what brand of minky they're selling then people probably don't want to take the risk.

Oh I didn't even realize I should be paying attention to what brand it is, doh. Anyway, I bought some of this( www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005… ); I guess I'll have to see how it works. One other question, this is probably silly, but is there a difference in the "two way stretch" and "one way stretch" minky?

Yeah, I believe the 1 way stretch will stretch along the width and the 2 way stretches along the length.

Hello there! I was wondering if you could help me out. I want to make a Poogie plush for someone for the holidays but I'm unsure on which color to go with? img2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20… (The pig down at the bottom) Thanks in advance!

I would personally go with coral from minkybabyfabric.com. That's the closest thing to peach that I know of. On their site it looks pinkish but in person it's pretty close to a fleshy/peach color. For the nose you could try Bubblegum (also from minkybabyfabric.com) or if you want a more vibrant pink the coral from Shannon fabrics. I think either would be good choices, but the Shannon fabrics coral for the nose would stand out more. As for the hooves the Chocolate from minkybabyfabric.com would be a nice choice.

I'd love to see the plush when you make it! I hope that helped. Feel free to ask me anything else.

This may seem like a noob question, but what's the color of the fabric to let it act as the skin of the plushy?

It's generally the same stuff you find on most commonly available commercial plushies, including commercial MLP plushies. :)

Do you tend to use 5 or 3mm pile? I'm hoping to start making basic plushies soon, but I have no idea what kind of pile is easiest, nor the best one on eBay, that you would recommend!

Would you mind if a fabric noob asked you a question or two? What's the difference between 'fleece' and 'cuddle' minky? Is one more suited to plushies than the other (easier to work with, looks/feels better, etc.)? Or is there another type that you prefer? I've made one plushie so far out of polar fleece, and am looking into minky for my next one, but I feel rather lost. I guess I'm just not sure what's "best."

Minky is higher quality and doesn't pill or bunch up like fleece does over time. Minky is also a short pile synthetic fur.

I've been having an issue with finding a good gray fabric for Derpy, I ordered a gray and it turned out to be a lot darker then the picture and so it was too dark for her and now i'm worried about buying anymore...can you please tell me where you get your gray from?
thanks, dea

I usually use dusty blue for Derpy. If you're going to use gray I believe the minkyboutique has some nice colors.

I bought gray from Theminkyboughtique but it was too dark.. You should try Silver from Fabric.com [link] That's the fabric I'm currently waiting for in the mail. :] I think it will be perfect for Derpy.
